Snow stories continued

After a fantastic Saturday of play (castle building out of cardboard boxes and then accessorizing and peopling them with the playmobiles) with three elementary-aged gals from church and then a COW basetball team nail-biting win over Ohio Wesleyan, Karen was due for a downer of a day. It came as we took her to the airport for a 4:50 flight. Because we had had snow sqalls off and on all day, we allowed extra for the hour's drive, but got there in our usual hour. All was well as we checked in and then killed time and (she, not I) got an early supper before going to the concourse. While we were thus occupied, a Delta plane arriving from Atlanta skidded off the runway (in yet more snow), closing the airport for an hour and a half. K's flight was still posted until about a half hour before it was scheduled to leave and then it just disappeared from the notice boards. Chuck was off site (our usual practice with these long waits), this time at the golf show at the I-X center next to the airport. He had the (only) cell phone. Now what?? But when he learned that the flight had been cancelled, he had me paged on one of those white courtesy phones and then could call all the folk in G.R. who needed to know this news. He then also got a pass to come out on to the concourse with us. K was rebooked for the 6:50...and to make a long story short, that plane left at 10:20 (the last half hour of which she was on the plane but it didn't take off because they couldn't find the people who push it out onto the runway and because the weight was unbalanced so they had to shift some...) Patient grandpa picked her up at 11:35 and then got her across town to Grandville. All the more evidence that a sooner rather than later move to G.R. is in order. How much more can we ask of him????
And today it is supposed to get above freezing for the first time in many many days (over a month, I believe). C is going to shovel out the entrance to his little blue car's garage stall, and then hopefully tomorrow shovel out and try to start that car so we can take is safely home.
