Blizzards and other musings

We have pictures to prove that we survived the blizzard of aught seven. The blue car may never recover. Neither might the newly renovated Kauke Hall. Not really, but the students swarmed out to continue an old tradition--that if you will fill the arch of Kauke with snow, you won't have classes the next day. They did fill it but not without incident. The security folk, who didn't seem to understand the tradition, called the police and three were arrested. It took the Dean to calm things down. Check out the Daily Record or the Akron Beacon Journal for Thursday for the full scoop, or Face Book or U-Tube.... The students are rightly indignant. They are having an "Empty Kauke Arch of Snow" party Sunday night. We didn't have classes on Wed. but not because the students filled the arch with snow but because staff and faculty couldn't get in to work. The last time that happened here was in the Blizzard of Jan 78, and we don't remember it because we were (that day) happily at a picnic miles away from the strike-torn Cuttington U.College at a stream with enough running water that we didn't have to worry about schistosomyisis (sp?). My next door neighbor wrote us a letter in which she said, "Boots. Do you remember boots?" Our trade-off was strikes, but we did miss a blizzard.

The students may have started another tradition. Last year the campus acquired a gift not everyone likes--a scupture that doesn't communicate its meaning very well. When I walked past it yesterday, there is was, metamorphosed into a happy snowman.

Let's see if I can post pictures without them going on top of each other. I may put them up in separate posts.
