Blessings Multiplied
The lecture update will come tomorrow (hopefully).
In the meantime, just a quick sharing of the joy: When K left Eastwood, she was leaving a very difficult roommate situation. Neither K nor J should have had to share a room, but there was no choice. The move to GFH gave Karen so much more privacy and personal dignity. As she left, her roommate, with whom she was often at odds (but at times they could also be buddy-buddy), told me that she was not happy that K was leaving but she was happy that K was happy. What a surprise to hear J say this, not only for its sophisticated moral reasoning but she had rarely had anything good to say about or for K. I replied, through my tears, that J deserved a room of her own as well. I knew, however, that the wheels were already in motion to fill that half-room space.
When we went back to visit Eastwood this past weekend, to our great and happy surprise, we discovered that J now has a room of her own as well. When the new resident came in, the staff team was able to create a three-person shift. The new person and a woman who previously had a room of her own are now happily roommates in a neat and spartan space. (Shock--you should have seen how the two packrats and activity do-ers filled its every nook and cranny!) J got the vacated single, now stuffed to the gills with her stuff but it is HERS and hers alone. Unknown to us, K's departure created a blessing for J--and C and L as well. God works in mysterious ways his blessings to dispense most liberally.
